Down in the Country *Giveaway*





Jackie, from Down in the Country has graciously offered up a Rakestraw Spinner for a giveaway!

What is a Rakestraw Spinner, you ask? Well, it is a wooden drop spindle that has a primitive farm-implement look. It's very well made, right on Jackie's farm in New York State!

With a Rakestraw Spinner purchase, you get a cute tote, an instruction booklet and some hand dyed fiber. Her booklet seems clear and is printed in color. If you've purchase one of Jackie's Rakestraw, let us know what you think!

    Oh, man do I want a spinning wheel. The Pinkie looks amazing, as I have NO room in my house. An easily dismantle-able one would be perfect. RTed @millarca!

    One of the ladies I was spinning with at the Blueberry Festival had a Rakestraw and it was mesmerizing!

    I really like the plying paddles though. I should get one...I'm sure my hand will thank me for it.

    Well I certainly would love a Babe wheel! I'm still spindle spinning. I certainly wouldn't turn down any more spindles! LOL Thanks for all the giveaway chances. It's really cool.

    Oh... would love a Rakestraw Spinner! I've gotten this weird fixation with spindles and think I'm going to start a collection! Probably spindles because wheels cost too much to make a collection at the moment. Oh, that means I'd probably need the Plying Paddle too!

    I'm intrigued by the plying paddle. Just learning how to ply (using a drop spindle) and I think a paddle would make it easier!

    I think the rakestraw spinner is awesome! I would love to try one out, and I think it would be great on long car trips!

    I really want one of your andean plying paddles too, I haven't tried andean plying yet but I plan on trying it sometime soon

    The lace blocker seems really interesting. Having only ever blocked items on a mattress, I think that has piqued my interest.

    I would like to give spinning a try, but with arthritis it is a changlege how to learn a new skill and not lose the use of my hands for a few days. I am intreged with the Rakestraw Spinner, it is so diffrent than any others I have seen.

    I bought one at Rhinebeck a few years ago and can I tell you it is the greatest thing. I have RA and a drop spindle was very hard on my hands but this really puts no stress on my hands what so ever. In fact it is what got me into spinning.

    The internet has really made some incredible changes in the fiber community; I think for the better. I recently started a knitting group at work because folks kept saying "we should..." whenever they caught me with my knitting. A lot of beginners that needed help getting started, and (here's why I started writing) some folks who had learned how to knit by watching youtube, who are supporting the independent art yarn dyer/spinner etc, who join fiber clubs and sock clubs not only for local in-person contact, but to extend the reach across the continent and even the globe. When I went to the Down in the Country site, I was struck by the rakestraw spinning tools. Here is someone who has unique insight into an art that would have gone the way of the 286-chip in this ever-increasing technical world, and yet we arties and crafties have found a way to use that technology to reach back into the history pages and bring back the golden oldies to soothe our multitasking selves.
