Northern Lights Fiber Company and *Giveaway*

I have never seen the northern lights. It is definitely on my bucket list though. The mere name "Alaksa" is a dreamy whisper on my tongue as I imagine myself standing on a thawing tundra overlooking an icy blue ocean in the distance.
Northern Ligts Fiber Company started life as "The felted sheep" so you may remember Kelsey from her former shop name. NLFco has contributed to three boxes so far- the third being April so look for her delicious yarn in your "Eco/Green" boxes!
I really love Kelsey's eye for color- her palette is so broad! Find exactly what you need in her shop- both bright and vibrant colorways and more subdued earthy tones can be found right next to each other.
I have been especially enjoying Kelsey's blog lately, where I've learned she has just finished spinning/knitting vests for her two adorable sons. After just browsing past posts she was writing about how her husband John "squishes her yarn" when she asks him to. I asked Marcus to squish her giveaway yarn just moments before I read that! Hee hee- I think we can safely say her yarn is very squishable.
Kelsey was so sweet to send in a giveaway with her April samples! Up for grabs are 2 50gram (180 yards) skeins of sport weight yarn (a shiny 50% tencel and 50% superwash merino blend) in her delicious "Soufriere" colorway- which is stunning! In order for you to win (drawin held Tuesday) you should visit her shop find something you like, and post about it below here. Remember I will count your tweets, plurks, blogposts and forum posts as double entries! I'm also going to need to hunt you down when you win- so post your Rav id or other identifying mark so I can find you.
Thank you so much, Kelsey for sending your beautiful wares in for us to sample! We hope you will continue to contribute to Phat Fiber!

  2. I love that yarn - the color is gorgeous! I just ordered some of her fiber this morning in the Midnight color . . . . I guess that counts as visiting her shop and finding something I like.

  6. I had never seen the Northern Lights Etsy store, so this was a new one (and I'm on Etsy...frequently) - must be I'm filtering her out somehow in my searching.

Well, no more :-) Her "Big Blue world" roving is on my list of things my husband *should* buy me for our anniversary! The colors are rich and saturated, the idea super timely (Earth Day coming up and all) and the price is definitely right!

I favorited the item and her store. I can't wait to see what she has when I finish a self-imposed spending diet later this year!

*You'll definitely get a RT from me! @cfbandit

LOL - the CAPTCHA must know we're talking about yarn - the word was "restash"

I love to get sample/scrap bags, and this was one of the best I've ever ordered. My daughter picked out some yarn, and it is great too.

  14. How I get cold and Christmas out of something called Solar Flare is beyond me. The color combo with the bit of green reminds me of candy canes and peppermints which are some of my favorite parts of Christmas. And since I get a warm feeling with Christmas, maybe Solar Flare is appropriate.

My current favs in her shop:
    Arctic Berry roving
Pretty much anything in her Midnight colorways (Borealis Superwash at the top of the list)
    Big Blue World roving

  39. Oh my, this brings me back to my ninth grade physics project on the Aurora Borealis.

I liked the red Aurora sock yarn because I remember reading that red aurorae were the rarest kind because they were caused by solar particles colliding with oxygen about 200km ABOVE where aurorae normally occur (when the solar particles collide with oxygen at lower altitudes, you get greeny-yellow aurorae that look more like the Neon Spring roving or the Trafalgar sock yarn).
