Birds Nest Yarns Luxe Fiber Giveaway!

Marcus and I were at an acquaintance's home recently and I discovered that she crochets. She crochets a lot and spends a lot of time on her creations and she uses acrylic yarn. Now, I have nothing against using a particular material if that is what you really would like. Marcus and I were discussing it on the drive home- why use inexpensive mass produced materials to create with?

We came to the conclusion that perhaps it is a matter of valuating one's work and time. If I think I am making an heirloom or a great masterpiece, I will chose materials that I think are worthy for the project. It's a safe bet for me to shop at Birds Nest Yarns! I think Liz has the same mindset when she sets out dyeing... use the best materials she can find to create her art!

If you have a little time to drool over all of the things in Liz' shop, we are giving away a Puck's Love potion smaller braid of Cashmere, Angora and Merino fiber for you to try! Please visit BirdsNestYarns, find something that sings to you, and write about it in the comments section below. We will be drawing later in the week, please remember to use twitter, facebook etc to gain extra entries and let everyone else know about this masterpiece of a shop!

I just bought this gorgeous linen yarn. I've been looking at it for ages, and I decided to splurge. I love the nearly-peacock colors. And, I look forward to wearing washable LINEN year around in dc's hot climate.

The "Jay" featured at the top of the page definitely sings (or rather, squawks) to me! The blue jay was my college mascot and also the theme of my wedding two months ago. And what a gorgeous color! I love how all of the yarns are named for different birds. I love the Loon and Magpie as well.

I think my favorite is the purple and gold BFL. Scrumptious colors!

The Raven - Silk Bamboo Handpainted Yarn in Sky Blue is gorgeous!

Wow, that red-orange-purple mulberry silk is definitely my favorite. I can feel myself transitioning to a fall color palette already.

SW Merino and Nylon Top, 4 oz braids, Hand Painted in Sea Blue Greens- doesn't that look like it would make the most awesome socks? I love how absolutely pristine the fibers look, despite being dyed and washed.

I will have to swing by later to check for linen yarn!

Also..about the acrylic...I use it often enough! Anything I'm donating is out of acrylic, and almost anything intended for children to play with will be a softer acrylic. I find with almost anything else parents say "Oh, that's TOO nice." and they don't let their sprouts play with it. :(

I succumbed to the sparkly, forest-y colors and so while I was there I grabbed a Phat sample too :D

I love the Peacock linen yarn, and I have bought several handpainted fibers. I know I'll be back for more, too. I spun all the June Box samples into a supercoil, and the fiber in this giveaway was, hands down, the most delightful to spin. :)

I have now spent 15 minutes trying to choose. They were 15 wonderful minutes of color and at the same time 15 terrible minutes of trying to make an impossible decision! But OK, I'll pick one: JAY in Deep Ocean Blues

I love all the yarns and fibers with blue and green colors, esp. the Magpie, SW Merino/Silk/Silver Yarn, Hand Painted in Deep Ocean Blue-Greens (and the Jay in the same color).

Organic Wool Sport Weight Hand Painted Yarn - I was immediately drawn tot his. Though no name was given for the colorway, the majestic variation of vivid blues reminded me of how the ocean looks in watercolor. They blended beautifully and I could not take my eyes off it.

Loving the 2% Silver (Magpie). I see what you mean about fibers that matter -- most folks just go with synthetics for sparkle!

It is really hard to pick what my favorite from Birds Nest might be. I want it all. But as I scrolled through all of the items, I was stunned by Raven. What a gorgeous yarn. And on sale!!!

Your stuff is gorgeous.

Why do I knit with acrylic? I can make a sweater for $10. If I had to buy "good" yarn I couldn't make the sweater. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with valuing work. For many it's totally a monetary issue. 'Nuff said.
