North Star Alpacas Yarn Giveaway!

Maple of NorthStarAlpacas has just broght home several pounds of her babies fleeces from the mill. There they were processed into the most beautiful rovings and yarn!

If you have had a chance to sample a bit of NorthStarAlpacas, you will know the quality is unmatched. Everything she has is so soft and smells so delicious! Maple includes a sweet smelling herbal sachet in with every order.

Have you spun alpaca yet? It is truly dreamy! One thing I really appreciate about many of Maple's goods, is that she has the mill blend her alpaca with super soft merino. It has the same softness that you can expect from pure alpaca, but it will also lend a bit more memory to your knitting. You see how clever Maple is? You can learn more about life with the 'pacas at her delightful blog here: http://www.northstaralpacas.blogspot.com

I am really excited to see that Maple has put together some spinning samplers in her shop! Now you can test out all of the different colors she has! What a great way to try before committing to buying pounds (which is what you will want to do) of one color/blend.

We're giving away 2 skeins of luscious millspun Alpaca and Merino yarn! At 250 yards each, this will be enough to really make a project out of. It is also white, you could dye it (but don't tell me about it, because it is too beautiful now!). We'll be drawing for a name on Saturday. Just visit NorthStarAlpacas, find something you like, and write about it in the comments section below. Be sure and twitter, facebook, ravelate, blog or plurk about this contest as I will count your efforts as second entries (just let me know you did it).

Maple, thank you so much for being tireless and taking care of these beautiful and gentle fiber creatures. We really enjoy using their fluff!

Well, obviously I need some of the light brown alpaca fleece from the alpaca named Patience, as we share a name!!! RT'ed @millarca

It would be a hard to choice between the natural black, the light brown, and the white...I'll have to try them all. I am new to using a drop spindle, so I'm sure this will be a fantastic source for roving.

I love the hand spun hand dyed alpaca hat. Also, the light brown swirl roving is luscious!

I absolutely love everything I've ever gotten from Maple! I've gotten several of her blends, some pure alpaca and some very special batts from her. She's very generous with her orders too. Next, I'm going to buy some pure alpaca roving to spin - just have to decide which of her lovely colors to get.

This is the yarn that I love.
Handspun Hand dyed Alpaca Yarn - 242 yards

Description
3 oz./85 grams - 242 yards/221 meters - DK to Worsted Weight

I spun this yarn from roving that I handdyed in my crock pot. See here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=23246973

After I spun a single, I plied the yarn with a red thread with gold sparkles. It's really pretty and I wish the glitz showed up better in the pictures.

I will also twitter this.

Honestly, I want all the fiber...but I'm partial to the hanks of blue to pink alpaca handspun, dyed on the spindle. Her handwovens are beautiful too...I want the $350 ruana--I can just imagine wrapping up in that on a cold winter morning...

You have such lovely alpacas who make such incredible yarn! Well, the fleeces at least--I can imagine that spinning is very difficult when you are an alpaca and don't have fingers. My favorite yarn is the natural colored handspun from Sonata and Nick. I think it's amazing that undyed yarn can be such a gorgeous color!

Please give your alpacas an extra pats on the head from me!

I like the light brown & fawn fibers to spin...but even better is the wonderful, kind Maple who cares for the animal and provides the fiber. She was one of the first to welcome me when I opened an etsy shop, and even though I have never met her, seems to be an amazing woman!

Maple, I love your shop. I adore how some of the fluff is pictured on the hoof so that people can relate to the fact that their new scarf, sweater, etc. is thanks, in part, to a lovely animal who grew the raw materials.

My favorite of the things I saw was some handspun gray yarn from the fleece of Samuri. It is gorgeous.

I love alpaca, so soft! My favorite from their store is the Hand dyed Alpaca/Merino - 240 yards - Diana. Beautiful colors!

I love the blend of natural colors and dyed colors. For example, the Handspun Bulky Alpaca and Mohair Yarn, spun from Berringer’s black is simply gorgeous. And, the Alpaca Handspun Hand dyed Yarn, with Polaris’ natural blended with olive and salmon has me thinking of patterns. You are an evil, evil person sending me to view these yarns. I must keep repeating the mantra I promised my DH … “I will not buy more yarn, I will not buy more yarn, I WILL …”

I love to look at other folks handspun and woven pieces. I have never dyed alpaca. I always like the natural colors. So many choices, and lovely blended. I like the samplers.

The light brown & white swirled roving looks just like my coffee before I stir it, but I don't spin. The white alpaca & merino is perfect as-is - no reason at all to stick it in a pot of KoolAid. I've never had a chance to knit with alpaca, but I sure used to enjoy borrowing DH's store-bought lavender alpaca sweater years ago.
