North Star Alpacas Yarn Giveaway!
Maple of NorthStarAlpacas has just broght home several pounds of her babies fleeces from the mill. There they were processed into the most beautiful rovings and yarn!
If you have had a chance to sample a bit of NorthStarAlpacas, you will know the quality is unmatched. Everything she has is so soft and smells so delicious! Maple includes a sweet smelling herbal sachet in with every order.
Have you spun alpaca yet? It is truly dreamy! One thing I really appreciate about many of Maple's goods, is that she has the mill blend her alpaca with super soft merino. It has the same softness that you can expect from pure alpaca, but it will also lend a bit more memory to your knitting. You see how clever Maple is? You can learn more about life with the 'pacas at her delightful blog here: http://www.northstaralpacas.blogspot.com
I am really excited to see that Maple has put together some spinning samplers in her shop! Now you can test out all of the different colors she has! What a great way to try before committing to buying pounds (which is what you will want to do) of one color/blend.
We're giving away 2 skeins of luscious millspun Alpaca and Merino yarn! At 250 yards each, this will be enough to really make a project out of. It is also white, you could dye it (but don't tell me about it, because it is too beautiful now!). We'll be drawing for a name on Saturday. Just visit NorthStarAlpacas, find something you like, and write about it in the comments section below. Be sure and twitter, facebook, ravelate, blog or plurk about this contest as I will count your efforts as second entries (just let me know you did it).
Maple, thank you so much for being tireless and taking care of these beautiful and gentle fiber creatures. We really enjoy using their fluff!

Well, obviously I need some of the light brown alpaca fleece from the alpaca named Patience, as we share a name!!! RT'ed @millarca
It would be a hard to choice between the natural black, the light brown, and the white...I'll have to try them all. I am new to using a drop spindle, so I'm sure this will be a fantastic source for roving.
I love the hand spun hand dyed alpaca hat. Also, the light brown swirl roving is luscious!
I really like the Cosmos
I already know I love Maple's alpaca fiber. :)
My favorite of the moment is:White Alpaca Roving from Pollux, I would love to spin that, and maybe try a bit with the mohair:
Charcoal Gray Alpaca/Mohair Roving

Ooh, I am a sucker for any of that natural, creamy white alpaca roving. Looks gorgeous!
RTed @ssailorss
What beautiful fibery goodness! I would have a hard time choosing between the hand-spun yarn and the hand-woven scarves.
I'm in love with that light brown and fawn alpaca top! I will have to order some soon.
The handspun is gorgeous, but in the end I want the grey alpaca handwoven scarf (now!).
I fell in love with the Hand dyed Alpaca / Merino Top in Hot Fuschia and Periwinkle. Too bad I don't spin.....YET!
Love love love this :Hand dyed Alpaca/Merino - 240 yards - Diana
RT'ed @claymuse
I absolutely love everything I've ever gotten from Maple! I've gotten several of her blends, some pure alpaca and some very special batts from her. She's very generous with her orders too. Next, I'm going to buy some pure alpaca roving to spin - just have to decide which of her lovely colors to get.
This is the yarn that I love.
Handspun Hand dyed Alpaca Yarn - 242 yards
Description
3 oz./85 grams - 242 yards/221 meters - DK to Worsted Weight
I spun this yarn from roving that I handdyed in my crock pot. See here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=23246973
After I spun a single, I plied the yarn with a red thread with gold sparkles. It's really pretty and I wish the glitz showed up better in the pictures.
I will also twitter this.
How beautiful! I actually love the creamy "prize" skeins the most. Hope I win!
I love the Hand dyed Hand spun Alpaca Yarn in the pinky/purply colorway naturally. It looks great!
Honestly, I want all the fiber...but I'm partial to the hanks of blue to pink alpaca handspun, dyed on the spindle. Her handwovens are beautiful too...I want the $350 ruana--I can just imagine wrapping up in that on a cold winter morning...
love the alpaca roving samples as well as the yarns!!
I like the light brown and brown swirl alpaca roving. It looks like chocolate swirl icecream. Yummm.
Cookieknits
I tweeted about it, too. I am "cookieknit."
I'd love to run some of the natural roving through the dyepot, then spin spin spin!!
I love the black alpca roving! makes me wish I was a spinner!
I love the Alpaca Handspun Handdyed Yarn - 114 yards.
Now off to blog about the contest
I've blogged about it now at
elaine-knitting.blogspot.com and all my friends are busy trampling over to enter.
I "hearted" some items but I have to say that the roving that is swirled brown and white together is my fave, along with the beautiful grey roving (I can have more that one fave, right?)
oh my gosh, the beautiful handwoven scarves!
i really love this though:
Hand dyed Alpaca / Merino Yarn - Green - 250 yards
love the hue of green.
Oooh I love the Hand dyed Alpaca/Merino - 240 yards
Everything looks so soft, but my favorite is light fawn and brown swirl! So beautiful!
Alpaca Handspun Handdyed Yarn - 114 yards. The best!
You have such lovely alpacas who make such incredible yarn! Well, the fleeces at least--I can imagine that spinning is very difficult when you are an alpaca and don't have fingers. My favorite yarn is the natural colored handspun from Sonata and Nick. I think it's amazing that undyed yarn can be such a gorgeous color!
Please give your alpacas an extra pats on the head from me!
Hand dyed Hand spun Alpaca/Merino Yarn - 122 yards - WOW!!
Too many beauties to pick from - I think my favorite is Alpaca Yarn - Hand dyed - Hand spun - 186 yards
My favorite is the Alpaca Handspun Handdyed Yarn - 114 yards.
The gray handspun is really beautiful
Love love love the woven silver and black colourwork shawl! It's stunning.
I will definately have to get my hands on the sample pack AND the 8 oz of swirl roving. I think I could make the hubby something fantastic for the holidays with that! And the white yarn is amazing. It looks sooo soft and squishy!! *fingers crossed*

I really love the pure white alpaca batts and merino alpaca blend batts.
The Alpaca Yarn - Hand dyed - Hand spun - 186 yards is gorgeous!
I love Maple's yarns and rovings -she is the reason I'm learning to spin-
I can't decide between Celeste and green of Hand dyed Alpaca/Merino.
Handspun Bulky Alpaca and Mohair Yarn- 48 yards reminds me of a starry night.
Slubby and Athena are very pretty! But I'd love to dye my own! :) Thanks.
OMG, I don't know if I can decide what color roving I want. The light fawn and brown look like tasty caramel!
Well we all know that I'm madly in love with the swirly roving that Maple brought home...I want some...I'm hoping next months budget can be stretched to add some.
I like the light brown & fawn fibers to spin...but even better is the wonderful, kind Maple who cares for the animal and provides the fiber. She was one of the first to welcome me when I opened an etsy shop, and even though I have never met her, seems to be an amazing woman!
I love all the hats, and really love the green zotikos blend. Yum!
I love the hand dyed in Helios! It is so cute the donor's pic is on the item page!
Really, who needs to dye any roving when you can have Alpaca Roving - Light Fawn and Brown Swirl. White and brown, natural alpaca colors! I can feel my hands on it =D
I hope that this isn't too corny or hookey, but I just finished reading this and the tears are rolling....
I'm having a really hard time right now because the 1st year's anniversary of my husband's death is coming up and I've been quite emotional.
All you Phatfolks, and Jessica, and Marcus have been my supportive "keep me going" group without you even knowing it. The good energy, kindness, and love that flows amongst us is amazing. I don't want sympathy, friends, but want you to know how much you have helped a fellow Phat friend.
I really like the Alpaca hand dyed, hand spun (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=12077767) in pinks and blues.
I LOVE the Emerald Green Handdyed Handknit Moebius Scarf. If I could right now, it would be mine!!
Such nice stuff!

I just love all of the handspun--but I am particularly fond of the natural colored alpaca--especially the blend from the three different alpacas. The colors look so lovely blended together.
I am a huge alpaca fan. I have multiple shades of brown from a friend but absolutely love the white and black rovings.
I love the hand-dyed/hand-spun alpaca merino. gorgeous!
The light brown and fawn roving is just beautiful!

Maple, I love your shop. I adore how some of the fluff is pictured on the hoof so that people can relate to the fact that their new scarf, sweater, etc. is thanks, in part, to a lovely animal who grew the raw materials.
My favorite of the things I saw was some handspun gray yarn from the fleece of Samuri. It is gorgeous.
I love alpaca, so soft! My favorite from their store is the Hand dyed Alpaca/Merino - 240 yards - Diana. Beautiful colors!
I love the blend of natural colors and dyed colors. For example, the Handspun Bulky Alpaca and Mohair Yarn, spun from Berringer’s black is simply gorgeous. And, the Alpaca Handspun Hand dyed Yarn, with Polaris’ natural blended with olive and salmon has me thinking of patterns. You are an evil, evil person sending me to view these yarns. I must keep repeating the mantra I promised my DH … “I will not buy more yarn, I will not buy more yarn, I WILL …”
Brown Suri Alpaca Bulky Handspun Yarn - 91 yards
this is sooo yummy...no dye...just alpaca...just makes you want to squish it!!

I immediately fell in love with Alpaca Roving - Light Fawn and Brown Swirl but alas it was reserved for Dianna. I am a novice drop spindler but am developing an addiction to natural rovings. This will be a wonderful source, thanks for link!
My favorite alpaca/merino handspun is called Celeste.
I love the natural colored alpaca handspun yarn.
Oh how I love Maple! She's the coolest Granny I know and everything she has in her shop is fabulous. I especially love the handwoven shawls and the white handspun that has green icicle carded into it! I just got a package from her in the mail today! must go open....
I LOVE that handwoven shawl. Seriously. I almost want to learn to weave (but it's tres scary). Beautiful bright colors in the dyed alpaca.

How could you pick ONE thing! Everything is soooo lucious! It looks like you could roll and sleep in the fluff for hours...PLUS Maple is the sweetest lady you could meet!
Posted it on the blog.
I Love the alpaca/merino slub yarn. I love that sort of texture. And I adore the alpaca/silk scarf! I love that pattern! I'm excited to do a trade with you, I'm glad you like my yarns too!
The lightbrown, handspun from Nick would make the most beautiful hat!

I WANT TO TRY HAND DYING AND THE WHITE ALPACA AND MERINO IS CALLING MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Lots of beauties here! Would love to spin some of the Natural Black Alpaca Fleece.
OMG the Alpaca - Merino - Mohair Blended Roving looks like a cloud ! I love it.
I love the mixes Maple does - I have one that is brown/grey/cream from several different 'pacas. I also love that she includes a photo of the animal who gave up her fleece! My DD had a great time looking at those, and now she wants to pet the roving (as do I)!
RT'ed!
I love the color of Alpaca Roving - Light Fawn and Brown Swirl.
I love the Alpaca/Mohair Handspun Yarn - 170 yards in brown and blue.
Gorgeous!!
Thanks for this chance =]

There is no way I can pick just one thing one North Stars site!! I love so many of their dyed yarns and their finished pieces. I would love the patterns for the wave patterned scarf, the mobieus scarf, Emerald green mobieus scarf. The woven pieces are beautiful too.
And love these yarns - Alpaca/silk handyed, Celeste, Cosmos, Alpaca/merino spun from Target.
I will put a note on the Knit Sisters Ravelry group about your contest.
Thanks!!
All the rovings and alpaca/merino tops looks so soft...
Love the yarn! Sure hope I'm the lucky winner LOL - Tina
I love the Gray Handspun Yarn (Samuri). Really appreciate the info on how you carded it all together. Very cool! Thanks for the chance to win!
I'm so lucky that Maple and her lovely alpacas live pretty close to me!
Everything in her shop is gorgeous, so I'll pick a fantasy favorite -- the lovely black and silver woven shawl. Yum!
I love the charcoal grey alpaca/mohair roving. The deep color makes me want to spin and knit a hat!
Beautiful, Maple!
I love to look at other folks handspun and woven pieces. I have never dyed alpaca. I always like the natural colors. So many choices, and lovely blended. I like the samplers.
The light brown & white swirled roving looks just like my coffee before I stir it, but I don't spin. The white alpaca & merino is perfect as-is - no reason at all to stick it in a pot of KoolAid. I've never had a chance to knit with alpaca, but I sure used to enjoy borrowing DH's store-bought lavender alpaca sweater years ago.
I love the alpaca sample pack and the handdyed alpaca rovings!
either the Celeste or Green alpaca merino millspun....looks yummy!
I have to agree with many of the other comments: the fiber looks heavenly.
The yarns are all lovely but that alpaca shawl pattern caught my eye - I can just imagine being wrapped up in that coziness!
What a great giveaway! My favorite was the dyed suri alpaca locks. They look so fluffy and soft.
I don't even need to think about this. I am coveting the Alpaca Roving - Light Fawn and Brown Swirl - 8 ounces but I am a teacher and don't get paid in the summer. I may just have to buy it anyway!
I love Maple's fiber...well, I love to buy it, give it to my daughter, and watch her spin it :)
The green Alpaca/Merino handdyed is to dye for!!
The Emerald Green Handdyed Handknit Moebius Scarf is so beautiful... makes me wish winter was here, or fall.

Any of the dyed offerings...Maple is a wonder with her dye (crock) pot
oh, I want, I want!! Gorgeous! I like the Zotikos and Celeste too!
I loves all of it! but I really want to know when Granny Maple is going to sell her awesome potpourri she puts in each package. I would buy gallons of it!
I love the variety of colors! My favorite yarn would have to be Celeste. It's dreamy :)
I've been eyeing the brown fleece (Elphaba) and white suri locks. They would be so yummy spun together.
I love Maple's things. I have been following her blog and she is a wonderful woman. Her hats are lovely and when she rainbow dyes her alpaca rovings ,they are so dazzling. She's the best.
The alpaca samplers look really cool...I've never spun alpaca, so I'd love to try those. The yarn looks scrumptious too!
I like the color combination of Alpaca Handspun Hand dyed Yarn - 206 yards in the colors colors dark fawn, olive and salmon.
Anything from Maple's store will always be a work of art. I do have a soft spot for her white rovings and yarn. if you ever want to know what a cloud feels like, just pick up some of Maple's alpaca yarn.
Is it "cheating" to pick something already made?
The Alpaca and Mohair Handknitted PonyTail Hat makes me giggle. I love it!
i really love the alpaca merino handspun slubby yarn. it is so pretty and looks so soft
What's not to like about alpaca? However the Golden Prime Baby Fleece from Lyra looks absolutely yummy.
Fantastic shop! The Light Fawn and Brown Swirl roving is absolutely lovely!

I think my current fave (it's hard to choose) is the natural colored handspun with 3 different-colored fibers from her alpacas.

I love alpaca too so again a hard choice, but I just love this color way. Hand dyed Alpaca/Merino - 250 yards - Zotikos
I think it would make excellent mittens.
The alpaca is so soft and looks so yummy - I love seeing the pictures of the hats - The Sweet Georgia and another sweet Georgia hat are really really cute! And a skein of a pink with a bit of purple/blue that's caught my eye too! :)
What a nice thing to do! I love your etsy shop and that you have so many choices, from the raw fiber all the way to hand spun and dyed! I love the roving that you dyed in your crock pot, yellow, salmon and teal, it looks really pretty.
So many and all so beautiful. That leaves the alpaca samples with 5 colors - that way I choose without choosing.
Beautiful yarn!
Wowsa! The yarn dyed in the Zotikos colorway is just dreamy. So many greens all blended together perfectly... sigh.
