The Love Blanket

Warning: I'm about to get real sappy and sentimental!

Some of you may know, in November, I lost my grandmother. The phatties took it upon themselves to create what I now call "The Love Blanket". This Love Blanket is comprised of many lovingly created blocks sewn together by Dani.

It was an amazing experience, opening the Love Blanket box. I spent a great deal of time pouring over all the different squares and on a quiet and cold afternoon alone, I opened and read all of the beautiful letters and notes of condolences. This blanket is a metaphor for so many things. The collective good wishes of the most wonderful fiber friends in the world, the idea of retaining your own individuality while contributing to the greater good, the warmth of a hug being just an arm's length away.

As Phat Fiber turns 1 this month, I can't help but get misty-eyed thinking about our group of amazing and talented fiber artists and the friendships that have been forged in the past year. This is truly the part of Phat Fiber that makes it shine from the inside out.

So true! I didn't even know about phatfiber until Aug, and this month is only my second time being able to contribute, but I have already made some awesome friends because of it. Fiber friends are the best! Heck, I feel like I'm closer to most of you than the people I have classes with in college.

A few years ago, I lost my Grandmother, and I still miss her greatly. She was the one who taught me how to sew (among many other things). The blankie is as close to a hug as we all could give you...hope it helps!
